P003 → Pockets of Love

This piece by DAL was created collectively in response to their chosen theme of ‘Home’.

The ‘Pockets of Love’ is the result of a local scam they encountered when seeking second-hand clothes to make diverse pieces. They expected to receive denim skirts to make tote bags; they were given denim short meaning the group had to reimagine what to do. The pockets were the only plentiful parts available, so many weeks of cutting and sewing began.

The pockets also suggested a novel way to communicate with others. Within each one is a secret message from each maker to the students back at LCF, who will, in turn, respond in kind with their own stitched, printed, or woven response.

The finished piece's weight and size suggest it is a unique blanket intended for healing trauma and continuing surprise conversations to inspire people across continents.
